Winds - from Norway, it's neoclassical metal, has Jan Axel von Blomberg (Hellhammer) on drums. Amazing. www.myspace.com/windsrocksTurisas - from Finland, viking metal. www.myspace.com/turisasofficialVital Remains - USA, death metal. Anti-religious, but at the pinnacle of extreme. Might not want to check them out if you are easily offended. www.myspace.com/vitalremainsStormlord - Italy, symphonic black metal, really top notch stuff. www.myspace.com/stormlordbandOpeth - Sweden, progressive metal, one of my top 5 favourites. www.myspace.com/opethOrigin - USA, really fast, really brutal death metal. www.myspace.com/originrelapseEnjoy!

Beyond the Embrace - USA. Swedish metal/thrash. I used to share a band space with them, very talented band. They signed to Metal Blade Records, then their second album was TERRIBLE. But if you want to hear some great music, get their first album, Against the Elements, very amazing. I would link you their myspace page, but they only have their new songs up, which are terrible. Guess you gotta take my word for it, I guess Against the Elements is a rare album these days. Cheers!

About three years ago i didn't like music cause i felt they didn't tell the truth, everything sounded as a big lie. By an acident I started listen to music as Draconian, Paradise Lost, Tristania and that led me to Dargaard, Arcana, Nox Arcana, Qntal, Helium Vola and so on. Love this kind of music who tells the truth.
top ten:
Draconian Dargaard Arcana Lacuna Coil Paradise Lost Helium Vola Tristania (old) Nox Arcana Qntal Faun

Fun, hm, I can probably pick out my top 10 bands This is probably the order, but its kinda hard to be precise about taste. It's not just darkwave, but all genres/styles of music. Dargaard Leaves' Eyes Emilie Autumn Type O Negative Loreena McKennitt Trobar De Morte Versailles Linkin Park Within Temptation Moi Dix Mois Eh, I like a couple things that are more mainstream, what can I say :/ Oh, and I definitely have to check out 'the 3rd and the mortal' if you're recommending it Tharen; the older stuff that is. I haven't heard of them before.

I haven't heard anything recent Tharen, however, Tears Laid In Earth is an utter masterpiece of melancholy music, to say the least. As for some of my favorite artists, in no particular order: Sonata Arctica, Bal-Sagoth, David Arkenstone/Ah*Nee*Mah, Summoning, Moonsorrow/Finntroll, Dargaard, Lost Horizon, X Japan, Luna Sea, Savatage, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Blind Guardian, Carach Angren, Windir, Menhir, Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, Rhapsody, Kamelot, Gamma Ray/old Helloween, Manowar, Arkona and Enigma are some favorites, however, there are MANY more.

" does anyone here know 'the 3rd and the mortal'? "
Hello Tharen!! Of course. Great Norwegian band !!
Tears laid on Earth and Painting On Glass are utter masterpieces! I even like the more trip-hoppy Memoirs, which is good for what it is.
They put a lot of of experimentation in their music, like Theater of Tragedy or Tiamat or The Gathering in ther last releases.
Some old fans might not like this, but at least those bands are expressing themselves in the way they want,

Indeed, Kari was a great singer, the band wasn't quite the same when she left..
