Moi Dix Mois is awesome! I love Mana-sama, and everything he does is great. Malice Mizer was the best visual band ever in my opinion, and Moi Dix Mois (sometimes shortened M10M) is the second best. For those who don't know, Moi Dix Mois is the solo project of Mana, a multi-talented Japanese musician. They recently released their 4th album titled Dixanadu (actually, it's about a year old already now!), which hosts pretty much an entirely new line-up (except for Mana of course). But it doesn't really matter that some of the band members have changed (including the vocalist), because everything goes back to Mana. In the end, it doesn't really matter who's with him, since he writes all the music, does the production, writes all the lyrics, etc. Moi Dix Mois was formed in 2002 or thereabouts. Prior to that, Mana was involved with Malice Mizer, probably the most famous visual kei band that ever existed (of course, I'm slightly biased, but they were huge in the late 90s). Malice Mizer existed from about 1992-2001. It went through a few different vocalists, and each one of them brought their own unique sound, but the music remained consistently good. In all of Mana's projects, the music is heavily gothic - but it's really neat because it's an Oriental interpretation of a Western concept of the gothic. It's hard to explain the music...just go to youtube and search for Moi Dix Mois and Malice Mizer to get an idea of the sound. There are lots of organs, violins, harpsichords, and other instruments that give it an almost vampiric sound. In fact, Malice Mizer produced a movie that was based around the western/romantic concept of a vampire. Well, here's a few youtube links: Moi Dix Mois' "Last Temptation"Moi Dix Mois' "Nocturnal Romance"An instrumental, but probably my favorite M10M song: Moi Dix Mois' "Deflower"Malice Mizer's "Saikai No Chi To Bara"Possibly the most famous MM song, but this clip doesn't do it justice: Malice Mizer's "Transylvania" Mana is the one in blue You can tell especially from the live clips why this genre of music has the word "visual" in its title. It really is an experience. Any live clips of the bands are amazing, because of how much the band becomes part of the show, both audibly and visually. Anyway, you can probably tell I love M10M, MM, and Mana, so I'll stop babbling now. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Dargaard, if for no other reason that I get the same sense of darkness/somberness/gothicness from both artists. Totally different music, but underneath it all I feel the correlation.
