I've mentioned that Rise and Fall is my favorite Dargaard album, so I don't want to belabor that point. But I just have to come out and say how the title track just blows me away every time I listen to it. I think I've listened to the song in full (like a 10 minute song) once a day on average the last month or so. I just feel like I'm in a whole different time and place - the dichotomy between the male and female vocals is amongst Dargaard's finest right here. And the wailing vocals in the middle of the track and again at the end of the track, combined with the crescendo of music, are just so powerful. Everytime those sections of the song start I get chills, and I can feel my whole expression change. The way this track leads into Bearer of the Flame is also amazing, but that point is for another time. The track Rise and Fall is moving and powerful for me, though I have a hard time putting it into words. It's hard to explain the kind of feelings the music generates in me, and I wouldn't be surprised if the case was similar for others of you, if not for this particular song, then at least for some of the others. But to get on to my point, I was shocked to see that this was one of the tracks listed on the dragonlance movie website as being inspired by Dragonlance. I had no clue what this song was about, and I only just recently looked up the lyrics and saw all the references. I guess I'm wondering how many folks realized this was something inspired by dragonlance. Having never read any dragonlance books myself, the lyrics don't mean much to me, but they could practically be in another language and it wouldn't matter. The music and the tone explain things more than adequately. Am I the only one that didn't know that this song was inspired by Dragonlance? I fell in love with the song without knowing this fact, so I'm guessing that if someone was a big fan of those fantasy books already, then they would probably find this song to be doubly fantastic in their mind. Now I'm going to have to read dragons of autumn twilight, and probably much more of the series to discover the people and places mentioned. I need to know who Lord Soth is, and the Cataclysm, Istar, Solamnia, and the rest....and I think I might know of some good music to listen to while I'm reading it

fanliorel, i´m happy that we could interest you for dragonlance since it was(is) one of the most inspiring fantasy series to me. i read the whole series about 10 years ago and i was fascinated. so it was a wish of mine to show my respect to the creation of one of the most fascinating persons in this saga(even though he didn´t get the biggest role...) - Lord Soth Raistlin already got much attention from others;)

Well I finished the first book in the Dragonlance Chronicles (Dragons of Autumn Twilight). I thought it was a really good story, but I think I need to get further into the series before i can truly appreciate it. Obviously I'm not at a very even point yet, since there's a long way to go in the storyline, but so far the story seemed kind of wild - there was action all over the map without a whole lot of downtime between , or very much in the way of character development. Each character had places where we saw some of their backstory, but I look forward to learning much more about them, and about the history of Krynn in general. I also hope the world gets expanded out, because the first book covered every place that was on the map included with the book. But having looked ahead into the second book and seeing a new map, I can see the world is going to be much bigger, which makes me happy I think I'm still a long ways from finding out who Lord Soth is though..... What I really look forward to is getting far enough into the series that I can go backwards. As I understand it, eventually there are some prequel books that go back hundreds of years before the storyline in the Chronicles series. That's the kind of stuff I really get into - just like the Silmarillion in Tolkien's fantasy world. Anyway, I'm glad I started the series, and I hope it keeps getting better. Are there other Dargaard songs that were inspired by Dragonlance? Or any songs inspired by any other fantasy works? It would be interesting to know - I need to start wading through the lyrics, but there's just so much latin! ;D My favorite character so far has gotta be Fizban, by the way (though each one of the heroes is interesting in their own way, and I can already see why Raistlin has such a following). I hope he comes back! I'm sure he will.

Greetings to all on the forum...this is my first contribution of any kind... The Dragonlance Saga was one of the first fantasy series I got into back around 19 years ago....my older brother had them in his room. Apart from Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd albums, I also stole books from him. It is without doubt a superior fantasy story; stay with it through all the books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot, Raistlin, Lord Soth, and Silvara are, to me, the most interesting characters.

That Fizban! My inklings about him were right Anyway, I finally finished the 3 books in the Dragonlance series. Wow. I wasn't really that excited after the first book, but I eventually got into the second one. About halfway through, I thought it really improved its style; it become a little less cliche, and a little more intense and furtive. That continued through the rest of the second book, and all through the third. A really solid series, with characters that really compelled you (at least after the first book, which I still contend was a little lackluster). But what really shocked me was the realization that "Dargaard" itself was a placename out of Dragonlance! Dargaard Keep, the current home of Lord Soth, a place which isn't mentioned until about halfway through the third book. Very cool! And I finally got to learn about Lord Soth, truly an interesting character. I'd definitely like to read his backstory, which I hope is available in one of their other books. Back on the topic of the "Rise and Fall" track - I still listen to it as much as ever. It, especially coupled with the following "Bearer of the Flame," is in important part of my life, as weird as that my sound. I listen to it all the time, and it's almost become a theme song for me. It just sounds so majestic and beautiful, while being simultaneously somber and mournful. I hope music like this continues to be the Dargaard standard, for it's truly magnificent.

Hmm.. I'd like to read some of the Dragonlance novels now.
Tharen, if your reading this could you tell me what this part of the song Rise and Fall means?: "noctem, redde tuae, dux bone, patriae!"
I it when that part is sung.
